Program Directors

Program Directors are previous volunteers who return to LE's programs to teach alongside volunteers. They are responsible for leading volunteers in country and planning the logistics of our programs throughout the year. Learn more about who they are and how to contact them!

Meet your Program Director, Jackie!

Meghan DeFrancesco is a senior majoring in English, Secondary Education, and Psychology with a minor in Women's Studies at Saint Francis University, originally from King of Prussia, PA. After joining LE as a volunteer for PY19, Meghan knew she was not done with our mission and returned for PY20 as Program Director. Her time in Brazil gave her a whole new perspective on the world. She loved teaching, interacting with the community and her students, spending time with her host family and getting to see the beautiful country. Teaching was ultimately the most impactful part of her as she built a connection with her students and made learning English exciting. Outside of school, Meghan is actively involved on her campus in many clubs, including Greek Life. She also enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, drinking a lot of coffee, and working on craft projects. Meghan is excited to meet new volunteers and help them have the most successful experience with LE. After a successful virtual program for PY20, she is excited and hopeful for another year as PD for PY 2021!

Interested applicants can contact Meghan at brazil@learningenterprises.org!

She considers her experience in Croatia to be the best time of her life--where she made friends who became family, and learned patience, kindness, and humor through teaching! Born in California, Jackie is a graduate student at Boston University who finds passion in running, health, the lgbt community, national parks, and food.

Hadassah considers her experience teaching English and experiencing Panamanian culture and hospitality as one of the most rewarding and life-changing experiences she had as an adult. Hadassah is grateful for the many friendships she cultivated during her time volunteering in Panama, as well as having the opportunity to grow her Spanish language development and the teaching experience she gained in the classroom. Meet your Program Director, Jyothika!

Poland PD

Jyothika Yermal is currently a third year at the Ohio State University. She is pursuing a dual degree in Political Science and Neuroscience, with minors in Clinical Psychology, Medical Pharmacology, and Philosophy. In her free time, she loves to cook fun vegan meals, play with her new dog, and explore her surroundings! She volunteered for the first time with LE in Summer 2020, participating in the virtual volunteering experience in Mongolia. Jyothika can speak for hours on human rights, and LE’s push for education does nothing less than help quench some of her activist thirst! Even though her work was done remotely, she loved every minute of it, especially the connections she made with the children and her helpful TAs. This year, she’s decided to switch continents and look towards Poland. While she has travelled throughout various European countries, Poland is new for her, but she’s confident that she will fill her role gracefully and effectively help her PY 21 volunteers!

Interested applicants can email Jyothika at poland@learningenterprises.org
