Program Directors

Program Directors are previous volunteers who return to LE's programs to teach alongside volunteers. They are responsible for leading volunteers in country and planning the logistics of our programs throughout the year. Learn more about who they are and how to contact them!

Meet your Program Director, Aurora Khatibi Garrity

Aurora is now in her second year with Learning Enterprises. A junior at the University of California, Berkeley, Aurora is pursuing a double major in Psychology, and Conservation and Resource Studies, with an interest in management and entrepreneurship. She began as a volunteer teacher in Brazil, where she quickly fell in love with the compassionate and kind community of Valinhos and Campinas. She is driven to foster inspiration for English learning in her classrooms and teach through creative, inspiring methods. Playing on her artistic background, she created lesson plans on topics such as outdoor field sketching, beatboxing and rap performance, and obviously American slang! She now returns as the Brazil Program Director, where she is grateful to facilitate the valuable cross-cultural connection and exchange between volunteers and students. She is excited to guide the volunteer cohort in their exploration, growth and journey to lifelong connections. In her free time, she loves to Persian dance, sing, mediate, snowboard, and bike!

Meet your Program Director, Erin Schaal

Erin earned her M.Ed from the University of Maryland and is in her ninth year of teaching elementary education. She began her career with the goal to nurture confident problem solvers by utilizing strengths-based approaches. Since then, she has been able to expand on that goal by mentoring intern teachers and leading teacher training programs in Malaysia, adhering to the same positive, holistic philosophy that she uses in the classroom. It has been hugely fulfilling to see how these practices can uplift children, adults, and entire communities; and she hopes that in her role as Program Director in Panama, she’ll be able to facilitate an equally rewarding experience for all involved.

Meet your Program Director, Grace Talty

Grace Talty is in her second year at the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Global Studies, and specializing in European and Russian Societies and Cultures. Meet your Program Director, Kinga

Kinga was born in Oradea, Romania. She studied at the Partium Christian University in order to become a social worker. She graduated in 2007. Later she moved to Budapest, Hungary, and she is working in a dubbing studio as an assistant director and translator.

In 2004, Kinga started to work as a volunteer for International Children’s Safety Service in Oradea, and that’s where she first heard about Learning Enterprises and met the first LE volunteers in Romania. Next year she became the Country Coordinator in Romania. She knew when she took the position that the job would be a real challenge, but she didn’t realize it would be such an amazing and pleasant experience.

Since LE Romania has not returned since the pandemic, Kinga will take on the additional responsibility of PD in order to bring back this program with hopefully many more years to come!
