Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Learning Enterprises. Our applications for summer 2013 programs are now closed. Please check back in December 2013 for applications to our summer 2014 programs.
Before applying, you may want to get familiarized with the application process:
The Application Process
The Learning Enterprises application process is three-tiered, consisting of the written application and two interviews. All applications are considered on a rolling basis, and we advise that you apply early. At the end of the application you will pay the $30 application fee.
Written application: The written application consists of personal information, 4 short answer questions, and an uploaded resume.
Application Fee: Applicants who apply by January 15th pay a $20 application fee, whereas applicants who apply by February 15th pay a $30 fee. The modest application fee allows Learning Enterprises to process the growing number of applications as quickly and efficiently as possible.
First-round interview: Our Campus Directors review written applications and may invite you to do a first-round interview. The first-round interview is a general fit interview. It is an opportunity for us to learn more about you and for you to learn more about us. This may be an in-person interview for those applicants near one of our main campuses and a phone interview for all others.
Second-round interview: The Campus Directors will forward recommended applicants to the Program Directors who conduct the second round of interviews for selected applicants. This interview is country-specific, and will evaluate your fit with the program of your choice. Almost all program interviews will take place over the phone.
Decisions will be announced in early March for all programs.
NOTE: All LE volunteers assume responsibility for obtaining their plane tickets and visas in a timely manner. Any volunteer accepted to a program with visa requirements must apply immediately upon his/her acceptance. Non-U.S. citizens may have special visa requirements and are required to notify their program director of these requirements.
Additionally, accepted volunteers must sign a liability waiver, code of conduct form, and submit a $500 security deposit check that WILL NOT be deposited unless the volunteer withdraws from his/her program. Should a program be canceled for any reason, security deposits will not be cashed and the affected volunteers will be encouraged to join a different country program or to take part in LE the following summer.
The following recruitment statistics are subject to changes in program availability and the number of applications received every year. They should not discourage any applicant from applying to a Learning Enterprises program.

Hungary and Slovakia (12 volunteers)- Experience two beautiful Eastern European countries with Learning Enterprise’s original program in Hungary/Slovakia. Volunteers will immerse themselves in Eastern European culture as they teach to a wide range of students in both countries! Impact local Eastern European communities by volunteering with Learning Enterprise’s Hungary/Slovakia program!
China (around 25 volunteers)- LE China is a unique volunteering opportunity in which participants spend 6 weeks living in and teaching English in a rural village in China. Volunteers spend their time in the villages living among their students in host families, and truly get to experience life out in the villages for themselves. This makes it a rewarding and highly enriching opportunity for personal growth while making a difference through education. One unique aspect of the China program is that each volunteer is paired and lives with a language partner from Nanjing University, allowing for a valuable cross-cultural exchange as they team-teach classes at local schools where the need for English language instruction is greatest.
- The Thailand program runs from mid-June to early August depending on whether you want to volunteer in our established Phichit region or test drive our pilot region, Chiang Mai.
- Thailand offers you the unique opportunity to teach in state schools during the school year rather than during school holidays.
- Thailand will give you the chance to make an impact on your host community, outside of the classroom, by executing a service project, examples of which include building a playground, painting a mural or starting up a school recycling program.

Romania and Croatia (around 15 volunteers) - Bok! Szia! Bună Ziua! These are just some ways of saying Hello our Learning Enterprises volunteers in Romania and Croatia can look forward to hearing. Volunteers will also enjoy once in a lifetime experiences like hiking in the Carpathian mountains and breathing by the cleanest, crispest air that has ever entered your lungs, and amazing home cook traditional meals that you will long for once you return home! This year, we will be adding a community service component to the program. The volunteers will be able to pick a topic that interests them such as the environment, folklore, sports, music, or agriculture to name a few, and develop their own project based around it. We are also very excited to introduce new places to volunteer such as Biograd, on the Croatian coast, and an orphanage in Romania. While there are exciting news aspects to the program, we are also thrilled to be returning to the beautiful city of Budapest, Hungary for our orientation.
